Great guitar centered fusion (with a pleasant Eastern touch) from Indonesia. Dewa Budjana clearly doesn't dislike being compared to Pat Metheny as he's playing with the Metheny rhythm section here!
Shiny HD-offering, as you might have guessed by the album title...
Favorite track: Saniscara.
East meets West in a dynamic fashion!Like all good fusions, this one is seamless yet highlighting the dichotomy in styles. The addition of vibes gives this a very cool feel and is terrific. The skill level on display is exemplary as are the compositions;complex and mercurial.

Joined by a superb cast of marquee players, Dewa Budjana's new release (his 4th on MoonJune), "Hasta Karma," sets a new benchmark for modern progressive jazz excellence in the 21st century. With a vibe and feel more akin to that of a band with decades of experience together, Dewa and his stellar session-mates -- the legendary NYC vibraphonist, Joe Locke, and Pat Metheny Unity Group's rhythm core: the fabulous, articulate young upright bassist, Ben Williams, and the extraordinary maestro drummer, Antonio Sanchez -- create superlative atmospheric textures that transport listeners to destinations of soaring altitude. Augmenting proceedings further is the glowing work of the legendary Indonesian keyboardist, Indra Lesmana.
Showcasing his compositional and arrangement skills at their absolute finest, most finely-honed, Budjana has delivered his ultimate masterpiece in "Hasta Karma." Capitalizing on their extraordinary gifts, Dewa Budjana pushes the band, and his music, to new, unparalleled heights. Oozing quality at every turn and dripping emotion throughout, this is music that is supremely visionary, ambitious and majestic. ... and, perhaps in spite of its polish, it is undeniably straight from the heart.
All the players involved contribute some of the most convincing performances of their impressive careers, yet the multifarious displays of individual greatness never upstage the corporate sanctity of the musical moment. This is modern progressive jazz at its most sensitive -- and its very best.

Fantastic opportunity to get an impression what MoonJune Records is about (fusion, prog rock, avantgarde from all around the world, with a special spotlight on Indonesia ...). Many great artists to be discovered (mostly) and rediscovered (sometimes)!
Also, watch out for their special offers due to their 15th birthday (this is why, in short time, many other MoonJune albums will appear here ;-} ). Carsten Pieper

Just couldn't resist buying this double album for half the price - a generous offer by Dewa Budjana on the occasion of "Uncle Tony" Levin's 72th birthday. I already had "Home" in my collection, which is one of my all-time favorite fusion albums. So if you like fun-packed fusion with fancy compositions and a great deal of virtuosity, hurry up and purchase this album (and maybe more) today or tomorrow with the discount code you get as a follower of Dewa Budjana!
